Bushfire Relief

Friends

If like me you spent time in Australia over the holiday season, the devastation of the bushfires will be much in your mind.

Most people seem to know someone who has been evacuated or lost their home.

The choking palls of smoke, even in the centers of Australia’s biggest cities, are a constant reminder.

The chamber has already suggested ways we can all help

(NSW Rural Fire Service – www.rfs.nsw.gov.au; Country Fire Association of Victoria – www.cfa.vic.gov.au;

South Australia Country Fire Service – www.cfsfoundation.org.au;

The Salvation Army Disaster Appeal – www.salvationarmy.org.au;

St Vincent de Paul Bushfire Appeal – www.vinnies.org.au and

Wires (injured wildlife) – www.wires.org.au)

but I want also to pay tribute to the rural fire services and their volunteer firefighters.  They are risking their lives for their communities.  We salute them.
